Jennifer Marvel, E-RYT is the Training Director for Kids Yogaverse, an award-winning company that creates innovative ways to connect kids to movement, music, and art through great stories and groundbreaking technology.
Jennifer began her yoga study in 1997 while attending the Florida School of Massage. She was inspired to teach adult yoga from taking classes at The Holy Cow Yoga Center in Charleston, South Carolina, and in 2001 she travelled to The Satchidananda Ashram in Buckingham, Virginia where she received her 200 hour yoga teaching certification.
Her first kids’ yoga teacher was her then three year-old daughter, Olivia. Together, Jennifer and Olivia created child-friendly yoga poses and practiced deep breathing to encourage relaxation and feelings of well-being. In 2002, Jennifer obtained her Children’s yoga certification and developed Charleston’s first mobile kids yoga program for Public School, Montessori, and pre-school students.
After a decade of teaching children’s yoga, Jennifer wrote her first children’s yoga training manual and began leading the Kids’ Yoga training at a local studio. She fell in love with her new path – inspiring grown-ups to teach children how to connect to their minds, bodies, and breath. In 2012, Jennifer affiliated with Kids Yogaverse and launched an updated 18 hour training package that is taught in yoga studios nation-wide. Jennifer also serves as part of the curriculum staff for Integral Yoga’s 95 hour kids training, Teaching Meditation and Yoga to Children, which is taught annually at The Satchidananda Ashram.
Jennifer lives in Charleston, and is the proud yoga momma of Olivia and Lola, two beautiful and spirited girls who provide daily inspiration and remind her why bringing yoga to children is so wonderful and amazing. She continues to teach kids’ yoga in several schools, participates in local volunteer yoga program, and has developed strong after-school mindfulness and movement programs for faculty and students for the Charleston County School District. Jennifer is often heard telling her students that “the breath is free; it never gets lost, you don’t have to buy it at Walmart, and it is always with you to calm the mind down or perk the body up.” Her life’s mission is to spread this message throughout today’s youth. To date, she has trained over 400 adults to help!
